A huge thank you to outgoing Board Members - Jessica Morgan, Lisa Luokkla, Senja Ruuska and Sarah Lehrke - for two years of building and strengthening Birthing Ways – Doula Connection as a community-based network and resource, coordinating access to Doula care for all women and their families living in Duluth/Superior and Northeastern Minnesota during the child-bearing year!

I am a mother to two amazing children who keep me on my feet every day. I enjoyed giving birth to them each in a birthing tub and could not have done so without the assistance of our doula. I am currently staying home with my children. My husband and I are both RNs and students working on our Bachelor’s degrees. I am getting my degree from Union Institute &University in Maternal/Child Health: Lactation Consulting. I believe women should be educated about their options regarding pregnancy, birth and parenting so that they may make informed decisions. I have always been passionate about pregnancy and infants and have added breastfeeding to that list in the last six years. I am honored to be a part of the Birthing Ways board.

Birthing Ways – Doula Connection exists so that families in Duluth-Superior and Northeastern Minnesota experience Doula supported birth as the standard of care with the following (ranked) priorities guiding the organization:
- Certified, experienced doulas are an integral part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary care team.
- Ongoing training opportunities by certifying organizations are available locally.
- An adequate ratio of doulas to family request is maintained to meet the needs of the service area.
- All families in our service area have the choice to experience a supported, informed, and honored birth.
- Access to services is available regardless of socio-economic status.
- All health care professionals, community organizations, and individuals embrace doulas as a part of birthing and understand the role of Birthing Ways.
- Birth is recognized as a normal, natural process.
- Health care professionals support and encourage mother and baby friendly practices.
